Education, Professional, Tobacco Control and Mentorship Awards
The IASLC offers a variety of education and mentorship awards to help researchers from around the world attend the IASLC 2025 World Conference on Lung Cancer (#WCLC25). Award winners are determined by an international, multidisciplinary review committee comprised of IASLC members.

Early Career Education Awards
Early Career Education Awards are available for students, trainees, residents, fellows (MD, Postdoc) or individuals with a professional degree within three years of faculty appointment. This award provides the opportunity for presenters of high rated abstracts to grow professionally by attending educational sessions, networking and developing professional relationships with colleagues from around the world.
Complimentary registration to the IASLC 2025 WCLC
Complimentary 1-year IASLC membership
Up to 4 nights accommodation at a conference contracted hotel (booked by IASLC)
1,000 USD to help offset travel costs
Students, trainees, residents, fellows (MD, Postdoc), or individuals with a professional degree, within three years of faculty appointment (e.g., you must be appointed to faculty after September 8, 2022)
Submit (as presenter) and have accepted an abstract for WCLC
You must certify/agree that you do not already have funding from another source (employer, etc.)
Active IASLC Membership is required to apply.

Developing Countries Education Awards
Developing Countries Education Awards are available for students, trainees, residents, fellows (MD, Postdoc) or individuals with a professional degree within three years of faculty appointment of countries listed on the IASLC Membership Guidelines webpage. This award provides the opportunity for presenters of high rated abstracts from developing countries to grow professionally by attending educational sessions, networking and developing professional relationships with colleagues from around the world.

Nurse or Allied Health Professional Awards
The Nurse or Allied Health Professional awards consist of up to 5 awards offered in two categories: Early Career and Developing Countries. The number of awards in each category will be approximately equal with the final numbers determined by the quality of applications received. The awards provide opportunities for Nurse and Allied Health presenters of high rated abstracts to grow professionally by attending educational sessions, networking and developing professional relationships with colleagues from around the world.

Developing Countries in Tobacco Control and Smoking Cessation Award
Developing Countries in Tobacco Control and Smoking Cessation Award are available for trainees and residents of countries listed on the IASLC Membership Guidelines webpage. The individual must submit a high-quality abstract addressing epidemiological data from their country or has undertaken educational or policy development activities aimed at tobacco control.

IASLC International Mentorship Program
The International Mentorship Program is a professional development and education program for early-career thoracic malignancies-focused physicians/researchers from economically developing countries.
The awardees, depending on funding support, of this program are matched with well-established scientific and clinical mentors from hospitals, health and research facilities within the hosting WCLC region.
The awardees will be mentored during the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC) and then the awardees will visit the mentor’s institution, shadow the mentor, meet and interact with other physicians/researchers at the mentor’s institution for approximately 5 days following the WCLC. The detailed program is determined by the mentor.
Foster the professional development and education of early-career thoracic malignancies-focused physicians/researchers from economically developing countries globally.
Share information and ideas and teach skills that the awardee can in turn pass along to their colleagues at their home intuitions.
Establish communication and collaborative relationships between the mentor and mentee, and their respective institutions that will last well into the future.
Individuals from an economically developing nation as defined by IASLC Membership Guidelines*. Currently corresponds to the World Bank list of countries in the following income groups: low income, lower middle income and upper middle income.
Students, trainees, residents, fellows (MD, Postdoc) or individuals with a professional degree within three years of faculty appointment (e.g. you must be appointed to faculty after September 8, 2022) or equivalent training based in home country.
Individuals who have submitted an abstract (as presenter) to the WCLC for the year that they are applying will have preference.

Patient Advocate Education Awards
The IASLC Patient Advocate Educational Awards provide an opportunity for patients/survivors, carers/caregivers, and patient advocates to be a part of IASLC’s most anticipated global conference: the IASLC World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC). The number of educational awards shall be limited to a maximum of five. Fewer than the maximum amount may be awarded, depending on interest, qualifications of the applicants, and the review process.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who have never been awarded a WCLC Patient Advocate Educational Award (formerly, the WCLC Patient Advocate Travel Award). If you have previously won this Award we strongly encourage you to apply to participate in the IASLC STARS Program.
Award applications open March 10, 2025 and will close April 7, 2025.

Up to 4 nights accommodation at a conference contracted hotel (booked by IASLC)
A fixed monetary amount (to be determined based on your region) to help offset other travel costs; and
Additional funds of USD 1,000 awarded to each recipient to be used towards a project in their home community that improves patient engagement and outcomes
Applicants must be individual patients/survivors with a lung cancer diagnosis, carers/caregivers of a loved one with a lung cancer diagnosis, or professional patient advocates who work for a non-profit organization focused on lung cancer.
The individual applying must be a current member of the IASLC for 2025 (visit www.iaslc.org/membership to join);
The applicant must have demonstrated commitment and experience in lung cancer patient advocacy.
For organizations applying, you must nominate ONLY ONE individual to represent the organization; multiple applications from individuals from the same organization will not be considered.

Attend a preconference virtual meeting to connect with fellow awardees and patient advocates;
Develop a conference session attendance plan;
Attend the Patient Engagement Meeting during the WCLC;
Attend a virtual meeting after the completion of WCLC to share learnings and present a project update;
Submit a written project update 6 months after the WCLC; and
Agree to participate virtually to support future award winners of this award.

IASLC Reviewer Workshop
While peer review is critical to academic publishing and research, formal training opportunities for physicians and physician-scientists are limited. In an effort to improve reviewer performance and quality of manuscript reviews, the IASLC, JTO and JTO CRR will conduct a formalized workshop to train reviewers, in particular, to be able to make judgements on impact of manuscripts, which is the most difficult part of the review process.
Reviewer Workshop application submissions are open through April 1, 2025.
This is a one-day workshop held during the Annual WCLC meeting to train early and mid-career IASLC members in manuscript review.
- To build up a pool of excellent reviewers for IASLC journals
- To learn technical aspects of publishing, ethics and publication guidelines
- Understand the review process and learn to be critical reviewers
- To be capable of judging the impact of a manuscript
- To make decisions consistent with the impact factor of the journal under

Accommodation for the workshop
Travel expenses
IASLC early and mid-career members, within 15 years of completing their specialist training, with a good command of English language. Applicants who are currently on the reviewer panel of the JTO or JTO CRR are particularly encouraged to apply. Non-IASLC members will be expected to apply for membership.
The 2025 Workshop is open to members from Europe, Africa and the Middle East. A total of 20 participants will be selected on a competitive basis by evaluation of supporting documents.
A curriculum vitae, including educational qualifications and the institution where they were acquired, and publications in a peer-reviewed scientific journal in which you were an author.
A letter of commitment of no more than 300 words, describing the reason of participating in this workshop, your area of training and date of completed training, commitment to the highest standards of academic publishing and the peer review process.
